Carter Law Firm practices numerous interconnected areas of laws aimed at serving entrepreneurs, innovators, creators, and performers.
Intellectual Property
Every business has intellectual property & should have a strategy for protecting their work. I can assist you with registering your copyrights with the U.S. Copyright Office; sending cease & desist letters, DMCA takedown notices & counter takedown notices; creating & reviewing Works made for Hire contracts; writing & reviewing copyright assignments & licensing agreements; identifying trademarks; registering trademarks with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office; and addressing suspected trademark infringement. As an Of Counsel attorney at Venjuris, I also have strong connections with patent attorneys if you need patent assistance.
Social Media & Internet Law
Using social media as a marketing tool erupted so fast in the business world, and a lot of people jumped into using it without fully understanding the potential legal repercussions. I can work with you and your team to understand how to protect your copyrights & trademarks, use others’ content legally, effectively work with independent contractors you hire to design your website design & create content. I can educate your team on the law applies to the internet when it comes to defamation, privacy, & the First Amendment. Additionally, I also write custom website terms of service and can review your entire website for any potential legal issues or deficiencies.
If you don’t already have one, consider hiring a lawyer to write a social media policy for your employees that complies with state & federal laws. These are tricky to write as there are many things that an employee can legally say about their employer, even if they are an at-will employee.
Cyberbullying & cyberharassment are awful things to experience regardless of your age. I know because I’ve been through it. I provide consultations for individuals & organizations that are being harassed to explore what options are available to you.
I’m also available to consult with other lawyers about using social media to conduct research or gather evidence related to your cases.
Business Formation and Contracts
How you set up your company & what contracts you use will have a profound impact on your company’s success. We can discuss what entity is best for you & I can assist you in registering your business with the Arizona Corporation Commission.
Contracts form the basis of all your business relationships with your partners, employees, contractors, & clients. These must be carefully drafted to serve your unique needs & protect your interests. We can negotiate, review or draft any of the following contract templates for recurring business transactions, operating agreement, corporate bylaws, buy-sell agreements, employment contracts, contracts for independent contractors, non-compete agreements, non-solicitation agreements, non-disclosure agreements, & other custom contracts.
Flash Mob Law
Flash mobs are groups who appear to assemble spontaneously to perform an unusual act & disperse, often with the goal of surprising & entertaining an unsuspecting audience. I’ve researched the legal implications of flash mobs since I participated in my first flash mob in 2009. Flash mob organizers can consult with me regarding their ideas to reduce the risk that they or their participants will be sued or arrested for participating in their shenanigans. I also meet with companies and marketers who want to use a flash mob or other guerrilla marketing technique for promotional purposes. These events can have disastrous results if they are poorly executed. It’s critical that the organizers have legal advice every step of the way. If you’re really interested in flash mob law, I literally wrote the book on this topic.
